Live To Be the You God Created

It is good to come to the understanding that while God wants us to be holy and Spirit-filled, He does not expect us to look like Ryan Reynolds or make the contributions of Steve Jobs or have the same spiritual insight given to the Apostle Paul.

Each one of us is unique. We have all been made in the image of God. We are all capable of making a contribution to humanity and influencing our world. And I think the key is found in becoming comfortable in ‘our own skin.’  When I get to the place where I am comfortable with who I am, with all my quirks and shortcomings, and understand that God uses imperfect people just like me for His renown in my world, I am freed up to serve others.

The fact that you are alive in your generation means you have what it takes to be used by God to touch a life. The bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:4 says: ”Anyone who is among the living has hope – even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!”  Let that sink in. It is better to be a living dog than a dead lion. You may wish to be Abraham or Isaac or Jacob or John or Paul or any number of “heroes of the faith”, but remember that they have been dead for centuries and you are still around! You can give witness for Jesus today. You can still pray. You can still give of your substance to help those in need. You can still encourage the depressed.

If you are still skeptical and feel the pressure of being something you aren’t sure you are and are terrified people may discover your incompetencies, then in the words of Amy Cuddy in her presentation at TED, “fake it until you become it.” Don’t fake it until you make it. The goal isn’t to arrive. The goal is to become. Fake it until you become the you God created you to be. (Be sure to watch Amy’s enlightening and practical talk Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are.)

Please, do not miss something good from the hand of God because you feel you don’t measure up to Joshua, Gideon or Isaiah.  So in your life, rather than focus on who you perceive to be ‘movers-and-shakers’ and compare yourself to them, give God all of your attention! Give Him all of your love! Give Him all of your devotion and faithful service! You do not know what holy, happy secret God may want to whisper to your responsive heart that just might change your world.
